“We enter solitude, in which also we lose loneliness… True solitude is found in the wild places, where one is without human obligation. One’s inner voices become audible. One feels the attraction of one’s most intimate sources. In consequence, one responds more clearly to other lives. The more coherent one becomes within oneself as a creature, the more fully one enters into the communion of all creatures.”

Somewhere someone needs help Oh, it's a long long while From May to December But the days grow short When you reach September When the autumn weather Turns leaves to flame One hasn't got time For the waiting game Oh, the days dwindle down To a precious few September, November And these few precious days I'll spend with you These precious days I'll spend with you Oh, the days dwindle down To a precious few September, November And these few precious days I'll spend with you These precious days I'll spend with you These precious days I'll spend with you Images from my September morn walk at Point Roberts, Washington I enjoy meeting and supporting fellow artists, so when we travel I always try to connect with a local artist in their studio. Vancouvers rich art scene made for many choices, but knowing that I wanted to visit a potter definitely narrowed the field. An article titled ‘Vancouvers 10 best Potters’ from an art publication helped. I scanned each potters work and info, easily narrowed my choice to Amelia Nadine Butcher. She is a cartoonist turned potter-I love that! Cartooning is a highly acquired skill, a few well thought brush gestures to convey emotions and body language. Not easy, but Amelia has the talent.
She dabbles in drawings of Alewives lore on her pots. So interesting. We missed her pop up show by a day, but Amelia indulged us and we met her at her working studio near downtown. I got a couple of photos, shared an interesting, engaging conversation, and knew immediately Amelia is a quality person. It is always life expanding to connect with a fellow artist, the energy multiplies! Art is a way of being. The button below is her website, and her Instagram page showcases current pieces. I know we’ll treasure the pottery we purchased. Cheers, Amelia, hope one day to visit you at the Archie Bray! “The source of truly authentic work is within. Each time we ignore it, we diminish it. Each time we reject it, it goes silent. We need time alone, and openness to retrain our inner inspiration. It’s still there, mixed in with everything else we call our daily life. In sifting through it all, and finding our own creative source once more, we start to have a chance of expressing something real and moving.” – Ian Roberts, Creative Authenticity "In the end I think the real work is not finding inspiration, but attuning to it. When I’m not feeling inspired, I know somewhere along the line I’ve been distancing myself from life. The month of September... Stunning visuals of the majestic mountains, wide, deep rivers and profuse forests of British Columbia. Nature has awoken my senses and warmed me back to life…
We are exploring the greatness of British Columbia during this early autumn month, and are already halfway through the adventure. We crossed the border into Canada in Idaho, after golfing at Old Works in Anaconda, Montana. Hubby and I have golfed several times since, often staying in our trailer on the course parking lot through Harvest Hosts. Amazing accommodations! We spent a day at Quinn’s Hot Springs, perfect spot to contemplate the new fall season coming upon us. Being in Canada has been a very welcome relief from the toxic American politics. Did I mention we have not seen one police car, highway patrolman or sheriff our ENTIRE trip????? Summer brought the start of a new painting series, Tender. This trip has been just right to ponder the pieces, and how I’d like to move forward. I am thankful I’ve attuned my art practice to have this gift of being excited to start a new series. I’ll keep you posted! We arrived in Vancouver today, the air is SO Pacific Northwest coastal! This next phase of the trip will be so welcoming…the coastal water…it always gives solace. |
